Welcome to the Saplings page. Saplings 1 and 2 are within the additional resource provision (ARP). A provision for children with moderate learning difficulties and who have an Educational, Health & Care Plan (EHCP) with the ARP named within it. Saplings classes run only in the mornings and we work on;

English. This includes reading, writing, spelling and handwriting. We follow the mainstream class curriculum but differentiate, adapt and break down the learning into smaller, more manageable pieces with a wide range of visuals and practical resources to support it.

Maths. This includes all areas of our maths curriculum and is similar to English, where we follow the mainstream class curriculum but differentiate, adapt and break down the learning into smaller, more manageable pieces with a wide range of visuals and practical resources to support it.

Communication.  Many of our children have difficulties in areas of their communication, so we have daily circle times to work on areas such as 'wh' questions, recall and sequencing. If a child has speech and language as part of their EHCP, their targets are also worked on in the mornings within circle times, group games and an allocated target time slot once a week.

To supplement our curriculum and support the children to retain and generalise their learning, we incorporate cooking and community walks and outings within each term. We also give structure to our playtime, so pupils learn a range of skills across a term and build on their team work and resilience skills.  The children walk to the local shops to apply their speaking and listening skills as well as elements of maths. Our trips include; Eastcote House Gardens, Eat Well Café, Tesco's and Northala Fields. Please see an example of our playtime rota attached and photos taken of trips within the termly news section.

The children within Saplings classes have to have a level of independence as they need to be able to navigate from Saplings classes to their mainstream classes throughout the morning and from lunchtime onwards. Please look at our class timetables below to see how children move between classes if they have subjects such as PE, French and Music within their morning mainstream classes.
